Some people have personalities that are simply magnetic. You place them in a room full of people, and whether or not they're trying, everyone tries to get a moment of their time. It comes more naturally to some than others, but it is a quality that you can possess with a bit of practice. One of the most important steps in getting there is forging a good relationship with yourself. Here are a few ways to get there.
1. Take good care of yourself
Nothing makes us more confident than being healthy. If you are not someone who loves working out, you have to set goals that work for you and stick to them. Stay accountable. Withholding something or making it a prize to be earned kick starts motivation for many of us.
The benefits of eating right and exercising are amazing! You'll look good and you feel good.
2. Fill your social calendar.
Remember high school? It felt like there was something to do every minute of every day. It felt like the more you had to do, the more opportunities to do things presented themselves.
What you probably didn't realize in high school is that unavailability can be attractive too. When you are busy doing fun things with your friends, suddenly a person that keeps you on the back burner starts noticing you again.
Don't stick to the same group of people you always do. Don't be scared to branch out and meet new people. Strike up conversations wherever you go! It's fun to meet somebody who is not from your usual social or professional circle, or your age, or whose first language is not yours.
This is the way you learn about the world and nothing is more attractive, inspiring, and exciting than this!
3. Spend time doing the things you genuinely love.
Take classes. Paint. Train for a half-marathon. Volunteer. I understand that it isn't easy to make time for hobbies when we have a full-time job and other responsibilities, but hobbies are vitally important. They are food for the soul, and you must feed it if you want to feel good.
Seriously, think about how many hours a week you are watching Netflix, relaxing. You can spend that time on a hobby that can relax you and enrich you. Consider swapping out an hour on the couch with an hour of busying yourself with a hobby. A hobby is a lot more interesting to discuss during a night out than an episode of the show you've been binging on Netflix.
4. Eliminate negativity from your life.
Toxic job, toxic friend, toxic clients; all that weighs us down. It eats away at us from the inside out. Stress and negativity take a serious toll on our physical and mental health.
As an adult you have choices. Everything is a choice.
So, choose the positive direction and let go of the negative things in your life that make you feel sad, anxious, or annoyed. You don't need them.
5. Practice being happy just as you are.
When you get to the point that you are taking care of your health, suddenly, you are surrounded by a fantastic group of people. Your soul is enriched with hobbies and negativity is removed from your life. The world looks like a beautiful place, full of opportunities.
This is the best time to think about what it is you really want and to actually go for it.
That dream career you need to go back to school for? Do it.
That book you started writing in college and then forgot about? Finish it.
That trip you've been planning for years? Book it.
When you are happy and put yourself first, you are your most gorgeous. You'll start attracting amazing people, people who are just as sparkly and awesome as you are.
