“You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it courageously.”
Cecilia Paredes is a masterpiece. An internationally studied and acclaimed artist who has completed residencies at both Pennsylvania University and the Banff Art Centre in Canada, she incorporates her body into her work by camouflaging herself in her canvases with body paint. She takes a little bit of body paint, poses specifically in front of her camera and hides in plain sight. She likes to leave clues to where she is hiding, and asks us to look closer, really soak in the whole image and the sum total of parts.
Thematically, Paredes believes her work speaks to relocation and adjustment. She strives to create work that documents the quest to belong while bringing the beauty of the animate and inanimate together in a special moment of synchronicity.
